Perhaps the most diverse city in the entire country, Melbourne has embraced its Mexican population wholeheartedly. Mexican-Australians distinguish themselves from other immigrant groups in the Australia through their relative “newness”. Most of the Mexi-Aussies living in Melbourne (nearly 70%) have moved here since 2001. In other words, the past twenty years have seen a little boom in our lovely Mexican communities. Lucky for locals, as more Mexican immigrants arrive on shores, the quality of the Mexican restaurants in Melbourne is primed to become more authentic and more flavorful the next few years.

Exploring Mexican culture & cuisine in Melbourne takes a little searching online, but asking the right question yields great results. In 2012, a group of Mexi-Aussies came together and held the very first “Melbourne Mexican Festival”, celebrating their culture, tradition, food, and more. On Halloween, you can find “Day of the Dead” celebrations – another Mexican tradition. Mexican restaurants on this day in Melbourne turn out, providing incredible street tacos, burritos, margaritas, and guacamole with toasted chips. Yum.
Aside from these wonderful festivals, our very favorite Mexican community in Melbourne is found here – at Meetup.com. Organized through the power of the internet, the group boasts over 4000 members. With over 800 past events, the group comes together to immerse themselves in Latino culture, holding conversation meetups, movie nights, festival planning, picnics, dance classes, and last music nights!
